TRAINING & LESSONS

With a very friendly and knowledgeable training staff, Bull Run Equestrian Center offers training and lessons for a broad range of skill levels. This means that each member of the training staff is willing to work with a variety of age groups. We specifically cater to beginner riders, young riders interested in the competitive horse show circuit, mature riders interested in improving their riding abilities, and all riders looking to improve in the fox hunting field. Our staff resides on the premises and is able to keep a watchful eye on all the horses, at the same time learning each of their unique personalities.

Lynda Zema

Our trainer and barn manager, Lynda Zema, has been involved professionally in the equestrian field for 27 years, however, her riding experience goes back much further. Lynda has substantial experience in the Hunter, Jumper and Equitation show rings and has trained many year-end award winners in all three disciplines. She also is a former fox hunter, earning her "colors" with the Wayne-DuPage hunt. Lynda's great love of encouraging younger riders and beginners of all ages makes her a key member of the Bull Run training program.

Lisa Stein

Lisa Stein's love for horses began with her first riding lesson at four years old and grew into a lifelong commitment.  As a child, Lisa was active in the United States Pony Club, earning her HA rating, and discovering a passion for horse care and eventing.  When she turned 18, Lisa joined the North American Young Riders Program, attending the Championships twice as a groom and twice as a riding member of the Area IV eventing team.  She has competed through Intermediate level eventing, including long format Three Day Events.  Lisa enjoys the rewards of working with young horses and has brought several horses through the levels in eventing, earning organizational and breed-specific year end awards.  Lisa's commitment to the horses is from the ground up; she enjoys the care and maintenance as much as the riding and loves teaching these skills to others interested in the equestrian world. Lisa provides both cross country and dressage lessons.

April Morris

April Morris has been involved in the local horse industry for 20 years. At the age of 8, she began taking lessons at a local barn. Later, she moved to Dunham Woods Farm in Wayne, where she rode with trainer Lynda Zema for almost 10 years.  While at Dunham, April began assisting the instructors with beginner lessons, and eventually began teaching lessons herself.

Throughout college, she taught in a variety of different programs, although her passion has always been hunter/jumpers.  April also has a special interest in re-training off-the-track thoroughbreds for new careers in the h/j rings, and has worked with many of these horses throughout her riding career.  April is currently working with her second off-the-track project, a gelding that spent 8 years on the track and is now a jumper prospect.

April believes in producing versatile, well-rounded riders and her lessons focus in large part on teaching her students how to adapt to a wide variety of horses.  Her goal is to establish in her students a solid foundation of correct and effective equitation, as well as teaching them how to be safe and conscientious horsemen both on the ground and in the saddle.

April is available for hunter/jumper lessons, and also for some local showing for those students who are interested in competing.  Please contact us for more information.
